Why not Run? Workshop

Coming Soon!!

A two day event that will help you discover what is holding you back from living the abundant Christian life.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. – John 10:10

Missing Something?

I love running! It has become one of my most favorite things to do. One evening someone overheard me talking about how I had ran 6 miles around the block that morning. She asked a quesiton that is actually quite common…

“You ran six miles for no reason? Were you running from something?”

What non-runners don’t understand is that it’s not about what we are running from, but rather what we are running to. Runners have learned that the pain, trials, and discomfort of training for a race is worth it when we cross that finish line. So what we often want to ask these people is, “Why not run?”

I’ve realized that the reason why more people don’t run is because they have no idea what it’s like. They don’t know what they are missing. There is nothing like chasing after a goal and then on race day realizing how much more we are capable of than we thought.

The Christian life is no different. You may have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, recognizing that you are a sinner and that there is nothing you can do to get into heaven by your own means, but have you decided to run the race that God has called you to run? Because if not, you are so missing out. There is nothing like jumping into God’s training plan and running full of joy, hope, peace, love… the list goes on… Will you choose to run?

Workshop Outline and Schedule

This workshop is designed to build on itself. Your effort in each session will determine the outcome of the next. Session three should be a delightful experience, but the level of enjoyment will depend on your cooperation in the first two sessions.

Because we like to leave room for the Spirit to direct in different ways, each workshop may differ slightly. But below is a general idea of what will be going on.

Friday Evening

In session one you will dive into Psalm 37:4, the main theme of the workshop. You are sent home with a simple, but crucial assignment to do that evening before going to bed. This will help prepare you for session two and three the next day.

Session One

Diving into your desires.

Inviting you to dream again.

Saturday Morning

This is where you will, between you and God, get down to the nitty gritty parts of your heart. Without honestly completing this section there will be no moving forward in your Christian life or in your relationship with God. You will get out of this as much as you put in.

*Please do not forget to bring your workbooks with you.

Session Two

Who are you really?

Who is God really?

Saturday Afternoon

Session three will only be as delightful and fun as you put effort into session two. The more you surrender to God in session two, the more joy you will receive in this session. Seeking God’s face over His hands is essential to living the abundant Christian life.

Session Three

Delighting in God

How to carry this workshop into life

Who is this Workshop for?

  • Women who feel stuck in a mundane life
  • Women who know there is more to the Christian life than what they are experiencing
  • Women who feel depressed or without purpose
  • Women who want to move forward, but don’t know whats holding them back

What is the primary focus of this workshop?

As a young teenager, Psalm 37:4 was a verse I clung to. I kept a little notebook of my wants and desires. At the time I didn’t think much about this, but as I got older I realized there was something more to this verse than just child-like, faith filled dreams. I continued to carry this theme into my twenties, seeing it as a way to share my heart with God.

This workshop is based on what God has taught me through meditating on this verse for over 14 years. It is an invitation into a joy-filled life, full of excitement and purpose. The primary goal is to create an atmosphere where God can draw you closer to Him. I do not expect people to fill out the workbook the same as anyone else. Not even every question has to be answered. The idea is to get your focus on Jesus and allow the Spirit to lead you to the areas you need to pray about. He knows what you need and can fulfill that better than any human being, no matter how much they try.

Why a running theme?

Hebrews 12:1-3 is the theme for Be Still and Run.

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”

Hebrews 12:1-3

As a runner myself, I’ve noticed that there is so much to learn about Christianity through it. Most everyone has at some point ran, whether that be as a hobby or playing tag as a kid.

Running is a perfect example of a disciplined Christian life. Less than 10% of the world runs. Why? I have heard so many reasons why people don’t run. Some of them physically can’t and that’s understandable. But some of them simply just don’t like it. It’s requires too much time, too much effort, too much preparation, too much discipline. They just don’t like it.

Put simply… Running is hard work!

But for those of us who have decided to do it anyway, we choose to continue because it is worth it. None of us run for no reason. Even though each of our “Why’s” are different, we still find that the work is worth the reward.

Therefore running is a perfect parellel to the Christian life.

Living in a passionate relationship with God does require work and discipline, just like any relationship. And once you experience the joy of being with Him, you’ll realize that you are willing to do whatever it takes to live the abundant Christian life. You will find that nothing else will compare, because nothing can compare to God. You will discover the work is worth the reward. You will come to the point that you give up everything to have God. Because nothing else will satisfy.

So when you ask us why we run, we want to turn it around and ask,

Why Not Run?!
