So You’re Taking a Trip?

Most everyone likes taking a journey…but not all.  Travel for vacations and visiting family and friends are usually something we look forward to with anticipation.  However, there are some trips that we have wanted to forego, like to the dentist or the hospital and certainly to a funeral home.  As we get older, I think we tend to choose to be at home rather than to go on, even the good trips.

Those of you that have taken journeys out of town—long or short—have not only anticipated the trip, but had to plan, to schedule, and to give serious attention to being able to pay for the travel.  In other words, you had to make preparation. In fact, other than an unexpected trip to the hospital, I can’t think of one other trip that did not require great preparation and planning, when I went anywhere!

There is one journey that we all must take that none of us can avoid!

Virtually all of you that are reading this know exactly what I am referring to and would likely rather think about something else.  However, that does not change the facts.  Why is it then that the vast majority of people do not prepare for this journey of all journeys?

This is a journey from which there is no return. You don’t get a second chance of choosing your destination, should you make a mistake or neglect preparation.

In the scriptures God has left on record some “MUSTS.”

John 3:7 – Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

John 3:3 – Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Acts 4:12 – Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved

Amos 4:12 – …prepare to meet thy God…

Thankfully someone else cared about our eternal destination, more than we did.  He paid the ultimate price, by shedding HIS own life’s blood on an old rugged cross; HE died and rose again and went to PREPARE a place for us!

John 14:2 – In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

John 14:3 – And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

To receive this wonderful gift that prepares us for life’s ultimate journey, we must put down whatever we are holding on to…to be able to receive it.

Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Titus 3:5 – Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
