The Why Not Run? Workshop Series

From 2016-2023, I loved running. It was six wonderful years of training. My body felt young and like it could do anything with no problems.
Injured? I’d pray and within a few days I was off running again.
Not able to walk after a race or event, I prayed and within a short time I was running as if my body hadn’t just run a marathon.
Oh to go back to a 20 year old body.
Unfortunately the times have changed. In 2022, during my last trail half marathon, my body started going downhill around mile 9. I felt it instantaneously. It was as though my body flipped a switch and decided, “You are no longer 20!” And because of the stress in my life over the last few years I wasn’t able to convince myself to run at all.
Why not Run?
I ask myself that a lot.
This time from the other side.
What is it about running that people despise so much?
What is it about running that I miss so much?
For those who run consistently, what motivates and keeps you going?
Deep down I miss running. I miss being able to mentally push past my bodies limitations. I miss recognizing that I’m moving forward with something, that I’m learning, that my body is improving. I miss the happiness it would bring when I was done. And I miss the races.
All in all, I miss the training.
If I were to turn it around I can ask, “Why don’t I run the Christian life to its fullest extent?”
What holds me back from doing all God has called me to do?
Where is the joy and peace that is supposed to overcome my soul?
Where is the purpose and love?
Why can’t I have self-control?
Why can’t I do the things I feel I should?
In the next several posts, I’m going to be sharing more about the topics and assignments we cover in the ‘Why not Run? Workshop’ in hopes that you will be able to discover what is holding you back from living the abundant Christian life.
To learn more about the workshop go to the webpage here. You can also follow us to stay updated on in-person locations as we hope to host them in the coming years across the country.
Until next time,
Love ya’ll and Happy Running!
