Active Recovery

Things that Usually Work, seem Counterintuitive

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.

1 Corinthians 1:27-29

Active recovery seems to be counterintuitive. When we are recovering from an injury, that last thing we want to do is exercise.  When we are recovering from a spiritual battle, the last thing we want to do is serve others.  Yet one of the greatest things we can do during recovery is to wisely be active.

Recovery most of the time requires a lot of rest, sleep, nutritional focus, and prayer, no matter what we are recovering from, but active recovery can greatly increase our strength for when we return to normal life.

This is such a passion of mine that if I were to choose a profession I would probably be a physical therapist. I love seeing people go from an injury to healed and perhaps stronger than before.  One of my most favorite things to do in my personal life is to keep active while I’m healing from an injury.

Active recovery has helped me with depression, jealousy, comparison, and more.

If you think God is leading you to do something that seems counterintuitive, it’s probably of Him.

In my spiritual life, I have noticed the best active recovery for me is to pray more than ever. It’s to focus on serving and helping others. And it’s best for me to keep pursuing Christ.  The more I am able to seek after God’s face rather than His hands, the faster I seem to heal from injuries and recover from trials.

God seems to often choose to work through things that the world thinks is silly or foolish so that people will see God’s ways are higher than theirs.

Check out this week’s podcast episode #53 Active Recovery on Be Still and Run by Alli Anne below or using your favorite platform.  I’ll be sharing my testimony of how I recovered from Tendonitis right before my first full marathon and then a recent spiritual trial as well.

Have a great week, Happy Running!
