Have you ever wondered why you don’t change? Have you ever wondered why it seems others are progressing more than you are? The year 2020 is approaching quickly and resolutions and goals I’m sure are starting to sound like a “good idea”. Or at least I have. I’ve had plenty of thoughts such as, “Oh, I’ll do that next year!” “Hey, I’ll start that in January!” “That would be a good goal for next year.” Everybody has the desire in them to be better than they are. We wish we could accomplish our goals and desires, but sometimes we can’t seem to gain the ump to do so.
2020 is the year I hope to accomplish and start many new things; running a marathon, starting a blog, writing articles for magazines, writing another book, etc. etc. But what of these am I actually willing to put effort into? What of these are actually callings from God? And what of these matter in light of eternity?
My goal for the rest of my life is to look for eternity, to fight the good fight, to be able to say at the end of my life, “I have run my course, I have kept the faith”. I have plenty of goals, dreams and desires. Plenty of things I think would be cool to be labeled as; a writer, a runner, an author, a blogger, and some year I’d love to be a wife and mother. But, what of these will matter in eternity?
“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:”
1 Peter 1:24
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
James 4:14
As I begin thinking about my New Year’s resolutions, I have been praying and searching scriptures a lot wondering what will matter in eternity. What will please God and bring Him glory while molding me into the image of His Son?
