And they that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee: for Thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek Thee.
Psalm 9:10
Trust.
Trusting God.
What does that mean to you?
How does trusting God play out in your life as a believer?
First of all, let’s start off by Biblically defining the word ‘trust’. In the Hebrew it means- bold hope, confidence, sure, to make your refuge. In the Greek it describes it as- to convince, to rely agree, assure, persuade.
This gives us a broader understanding of the word trust. Trusting God means we have been convinced of who He is. No one or anything can change our belief. We are fully persuaded of His goodness and what He’s done for us.
We have bold confidence in Him!
We make Him our refuge, a safe place to run to in our deepest despair! He is our hope in the midst of a mixed up, wicked world. We can fully rely on Him!
All the above creates the most beautiful picture of what trusting God looks like.

Does it look like that in our lives? Do we truly trust our loving Father like that?
What is something that keeps us from experiencing total trust in God?
I know that for myself, it is worry, doubt and fear. When I think about situations from my human viewpoint, I begin to worry about everything that could possibly go wrong. Giving into fears and lies of the enemy cause us to doubt God. I once heard it said like this,
“Worry denies the wisdom of God; it says that God doesn’t know what He’s doing. Worry denies the love of God; it says He does not care. Worry denies the power of God; it says He is not able to deliver me from whatever is causing me to worry.”
When I heard that, it helped me see the reality of worry and how God must feel when I don’t trust Him.
If we remember all that He’s done and is doing in our lives, we will be able to just rest in Him. One of my favorite verses is, “And He said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” (Exodus 33:14) The very presence of Jesus is with us! The Holy Spirit dwells in us! Guys! If we really believe that, we would leave everything in His hands and just sit back and RELAX! Besides, when we let Jesus have control, He always does a way better job than we ever could.

When we really get to KNOW God, we will automatically trust Him, just like it says, “…they that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee…”
A few weeks ago, I had a dream. I dreamt that I was at a store checking out. I put all my groceries on the belt. Then I walked around to where the cashier was. Pushing her aside, I began checking out by myself.
Then the cashier looked at me and motioned me to go back to where I was supposed to be. I went back around to the other side and she finished checking me out. Then looking directly in my eyes she questioned me, “Do you do that with God?”
When I woke up, I was like ‘whoa’, God must have been trying to show me what I so often do. Many times we ‘say’ we gave it all to God and are trusting Him, but then we push Him aside and try to do it on our own. Instead He wants us to give it all to Him.
He can handle it guys! He is GOD after all!!
When we don’t trust Him, in a way we are sinning. It’s saying to God, “I can do this myself. I don’t need you,” which is ultimately pride and unbelief.
So guys, (or gals is more appropriate:) if you find yourself worrying, doubting, or being fearful, there is an answer! God has been showing me many areas where I haven’t been trusting Him as well! The beautiful thing is that with God there is forgiveness!! All we need to do if we failed, is repent. Tell Him about it and turn back to Him!
“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22
Begin trusting Him today! Get to know Jesus personally! He is worthy of ALL our trust!
